How to activate the new dark mode for Google chrome on Android

In view of the recent updates, the much awaited dark mode has been released by Google for its Chrome browser (a browser with a Chromium based rendering engine). Just like every other applications that support dark mode, Chrome dark mode as well enables users a comfortable environment to surf the web with ease and focus particularly at night. Aside the fact that it facilitates concentration, it's also very helpful in saving the battery life of your device. This is achieved due to the fact that the dark mode will prevent any use of unnecessary screen brightness and illumination that white light generally generates in an application.

Nonetheless, you should put into consideration that this feature is still in its early stage and not yet perfected. Take into cognizance that before you can utilize this feature, you'll first need to update your chrome browser to the latest version. Meaning, you need to be running on version 74 or higher for it to work. This can be done by heading straights to Google Play store or hit the “Update Chrome” icon at the top right corner of your chrome browser.

Below are the steps required to activate this feature:

STEP 1:

Right in your browser URL bar type “chroe://flags,” this will redirect you to Chrome’s flag settings.

STEP 2:

Search for the “Android Chrome UI dark mode,” tap the flag’s drop-down menu and change the setting from default to enable.

STEP 3:

When the app opens up again, just go to the dot menu button on the top right corner and click “settings” then navigate to dark mode. Then tap the slider and you’re done. After this just restart the app and Chrome dark mode will be enabled for your browser. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

However since it’s still in testing mode, there a few bugs we noticed. Not all pages will display in dark mode. I’m pretty sure it will be fixed in the final rollout however if you think it’s still too annoying, you can just disable it in the settings.
