Facebook blocks Huawei from pre-installing its apps on future devices.

Facebook has joined the long list of tech companies cutting ties with Huawei. The embattled Chinese tech giant has been embroiled in a bitter battle with the US government since last year. However, the battle escalated further recently when Trump administration added the company to its entity list. This means all American companies are banned from transacting any form of business with the company. Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram will be missing from Huawei devices.

However, Huawei owners will still be able to install the apps on their own as well as receive updates. Just that Huawei will not be allowed to pre-install the apps directly from the factories. With Google cutting ties with the company, that means the Play store will be missing from future Huawei devices which makes receiving updates a problem.

Consequently, Google has secured a temporal licence that enables it to continue doing business with Huawei. With this licence, all existing Huawei devices will keep receiving updates including the ones in the stores. The devices that have not been shipped and also the ones that are yet to be made will still continue having Google services.

Obviously, it looks like Facebook is taking a very different approach to from Google. This new move by Facebook automatically shuts the door on Huawei by preventing the company from delivering important third-party apps to its customers. The only way out of this problem for Huawei is to launch a different app store.
